Patients and Methods: > Proteinase levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in the > plasma of 30 patients with painful bone metastases from breast or prostate cancer > undergoing multiple treatment with ZA (4 mg i.v., every 4 weeks). Healthy subjects > (HS) of…

Photoelectrochemical evidence of nitrogen incorporation during anodizing sputtering--deposited Al-Ta alloys.

2015

Anodic films were grown to 20 V on sputtering-deposited Al–Ta alloys in ammonium biborate and borate buffer solutions. According to glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy, anodizing in ammonium containing solution leads to the formation of N containing anodic layers. Impedance measurements did not evidence significant differences between the dielectric properties of the anodic films as a function of the anodizing electrolyte. Photoelectrochemical investigation allowed evidencing that N incorporation induces a red-shift in the light absorption threshold of the films due to the formation of allowed localized states inside their mobility gap. The estimated Fowler threshold for the intern…

Jacobian of solutions to the conductivity equation in limited view

2022

Abstract The aim of hybrid inverse problems such as Acousto-Electric Tomography or Current Density Imaging is the reconstruction of the electrical conductivity in a domain that can only be accessed from its exterior. In the inversion procedure, the solutions to the conductivity equation play a central role. In particular, it is important that the Jacobian of the solutions is non-vanishing. In the present paper we address a two-dimensional limited view setting, where only a part of the boundary of the domain can be controlled by a non-zero Dirichlet condition, while on the remaining boundary there is a zero Dirichlet condition. For this setting, we propose sufficient conditions on the bounda…

Determination of the number densities of argon metastables in argon-hydrogen plasma by absorption and self-absorption methods

2006

The number densities of Ar 3s23p54s levels have been measured by means of two methods: a self-absorption method with a mirror behind the discharge vessel and an absorption method with a high-frequency electrodeless discharge lamp. Concentrations ranging from 6 × 107–4 × 109 cm−3 were obtained for the Ar 3s23p54s levels, depending on the argon content (10–100% Ar) in Ar/H2 microwave plasma. The populations of various sublevels of measured resonant and metastable states coincide within the experimental errors. It was observed that values from measurements of both methods are in good agreement.

Effect of variation of the vertical air density profile on the relative optical air mass

1967

A simple method is developed which allows for estimating the deviations of the relative optical air mass for a given vertical air density profile from the relative optical air mass for the ARDC Model Atmosphere, 1959 which serves as standard. In case of the mean profiles given byQuiroz [3] for middle latitudes, summer; middle latitudes, winter; arctic summer; and arctic winter the air mass deviations turn out to be small.

The impact of a mesoscale convective system cold pool on the northward propagation of the intertropical discontinuity over West Africa

2009

The interaction between a mesoscale convection system cold pool and the intertropical discontinuity (ITD) is investigated on two consecutive days (5 and 6 June 2006), in the framework of the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis Special Observing Period (SOP 1a). Satellite imagery and surface meteorological observations are used to track the movement of the ITD prior to and after its interaction with the cold pool. The impact of the northward propagating cold pool on the Sahelo-Saharan planetary boundary layer (PBL) thermodynamics and aerosol vertical distribution is analyzed by means of airborne and ground-based measurements over the two-day period. Comparative analysis of the electronic structures of mono- and bi-atomic chains of IV, III–V and II–VI group elements calculated using the DFT LCAO a…

2015

Using the first principle non-relativistic linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) and relativistic linearized augmented cylindrical wave (LACW) methods, the band structure of the covalent and partially ionic ANB8−N single atom width chain is calculated. Both the LCAO and LACW methods show that the chains of C, Si, Ge, Sn, and Pb are metallic. However, there is a great difference between the relativistic and non-relativistic band structures. The π bands crossing the Fermi level are orbitally doubly degenerate in the non-relativistic model. The relativistic LACW calculations demonstrate that the spin and orbital motion of electrons are coupled, thereby splitting the π bands. The spin–or…

Filmability and properties of compatibilized PA6/LDPE blends

2005

Blends of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and polyamide 6 (PA6), compatibilized with an ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer (EAA), either alone or combined with a low molar mass bis-oxazoline compound (PBO), have been processed in film blowing operations and the properties of the films have been investigated. Without of compatibilization, the filmability of the blend was very poor and no significant specimen was collected. As a result of the reactive compatibilization, the blends with EAA and even more with the EAA-PBO, were processed successfully in film blowing. The films of the quaternary blends were shown to possess satisfactory mechanical properties as a result of fine and stable morpholog…
